1 Malaysia Indian Musicial Nite - 24/7/2010

In short, it was a good show a mixture of Telugu, Tamil,Malayali, Hindi and Punjab showtime. Besides needy children were given some donations and 1 leader from Telugu Community, 1 Malayali community and from Hindu Sangam were garlanded for their services towards their community.
This reminds me, as way back in 1982 when we established Telugu Association Klang branch. We Klang Branch, Klang Malayali Samanjam and MIC Taman Gembira branch jointly organised Malam Nirvana of such nature.

TAM First Life Membership Certificate No.0001 issued to Me

The First TAM Life Membership Certificate No 0001 issued to Me

The Association was first formed in Lower Perak, Perak on 17th August 1955 under the banner of Malaya Andhra Sangamu. Subsequently it was renamed on 16th December 1963 to Malaysia Andhra Sangamu.

Later in the 1983, it was established as Persatuan Telugu Malaysia(TAM) and which otherwise also known as Telugu Association of Malaysia. This was passed at the Annual General Meeting of Andhra Association of Malaysia held at Klang in the year 1982. This was done for the simple reason that could allow all the other Telugus besides who came from Andhra Pradesh to join the Telugu Association too.

From very first day, I was one who prepared the TAM Constitution from the Draft given by Dr A. C Apparao who was then President. I was then the newly formed Klang branch chairman.

Later Late R. P Ramulu then the General Treasurer was also involved in the further preparation and approval of constitution. From 1955 till 1983 the association was operating from the address: N0 41, 25th mile, Bagan Datoh,Perak. We also transfer TAM HQ from Bagan Datoh to Udarama Complex, Jalan Ipoh, 50350 Kuala Lumpur.

Klang branch was the first branch to conduct Biennial Delegate Conference just after renaming as Telugu Association Malaysia and all the branch life members were issued Life Membership Certificates.

And I was issued the first Life Membership as my Certificate No.OOO1

TAM conducted Pre-Census(Banci) 2000

TAM conducted pre- Banci 2000 pre to the last National Census by printing few thousands pink forms as below. All the branches went around to our Telugu houses to tell them about the Census(Banci). Some of our brothers even took up the part time Census officers job to assist National Census.
This year too TAM and our youths members could also assist as part time Census officers and while going from house to house to inform them while collecting data from each Telugu as to develop "Who is Who" and

Allow Free membership without voting rights which would help us to built up data base.

Hence, other important Mega event "An evening with PM" would be much more easier to gather thousands and thousands of Telugu brothers and sisters.

PRE CENSUS EXERCISE

Pre-Banci 2000 -the upper portion was stick at the Telugu houses and the other portion for TAM referance

Is TAM conducting pre-census exercise?

Dept. of Statistics of Malaysia is going to conduct the 2010 Population and Housing Census from the 6th of July until 22nd August 2010.

Past experience has shown that as Telugus and Tamils are lookalike there are many occasions we are recorded as Tamils. As we, Telugus living in Malaysia must explain to the census officers to ensure that Telugus are recorded as Telugus in the Census Form: Telugu Kod 6180. If every Telugu irrespective of whether a member or not member of Telugu Association of Malaysia must play his or her role firmly during the census exercise being done. That will prove to the Government the correct Telugu population and strength of the Telugus in this country.

Is TAM conducting any pre census exercise? As for your information our TAM committee then, did some homework such as printing our Telugu kod and our all branches went around to stick at our Telugu houses(as above) and our brothers too were some of the worked as Census officials.

As we are meeting our PM on 8/10/10 this could be good move that TAM organise to visit all the Telugu houses to gather their participation/create who is who and even allow free membership who has no voting right but as observers. And by conducting free membership we may gather some good records of 300,000 - 400,000 Telugu population which will talk for itself.

Cheque Presentation Ceremony

Dato' Dr Jejendiran from Yayasan my Nadi presenting cheque of RM20,000/-to Dr Achiah Kumar Rao from Telugu Association of Malaysia
Dato' Dr Jejendiran also touched on some of the projects undertaken by Yayasan myNadi such as SKJK(Tamil) Senawang school was situauted in a flood prone area . Pledged for a new block since 2000. On 17th Mac 2009, a letter of approval was given and RM4.9 million was granted to build the school on higher ground with a four storey block.

Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Sungai Salak, which has been operating from a two-storey shoplot for the third year, has received a one-hectare plot of land from the government for a school building to be ready in 12 months. It has also been upgraded to a fully aided government funded school. The handover of the land ownership was held at the site of the new school to underline the sincerity of the Prime Minister to help the Indian community.

RM46, 000 been allocated for the school. The contractor refused to renovate / construct the facilities (canteen, store room & toilet) as required by the school. The governement contractor estimated RM 65,000 to renovate only the toilet. The total cost of the renovation work proposed by the contractor was way below the 46,000 (about 5K only.) The school has refused to accept the proposal. MyNadi assigned a local contactor to renovate / construct the facilities (canteen, store room & toilet) and with additional task in partitioning the wall and made new walk with a budget of RM 123, 000.

The school has been working on acquiring 4 acres of land for the school. The matter has been pending for quite a while. All necessary documents have been submitted to My Nadi. The school needs also 120 tables and chairs for its current premises.

A 100 year’s old temple requires, electricity supply. TNB was not being able to assist as the cost is too high to lay the cable from the main supply. A request was made for a generator or a solar panel to supply electricity. KSR Engineering, and MyNadi solved the issue by installing 1 unit of 175W PV solar panel, with an inverter that convert direct current (DC) to Alternating current to 6 units of 18watts CFL lights in the temple

On 1st May 2009, My Nadi together with MHC and Sri Maha Mariamman Dhevasthanam organised a mass prayer gathering. It was held at Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple , Batu Caves Selangor. More than 1000 people attended the event that started which started with a pooja and group prayers. The organizer called upon everyone to seek the blessing of Lord Muruga to enlighten the embattling forces in Sri Lanka to stop fighting and empower them to think for the betterment of the people of Tamils in Sri Lanka . The event brought many organizations and temples together. Representatives from various movements spoke in full zest. They were UNITED in
condemning the war and demanded the safety and welfare of the innocent SL Tamils

On 9th Aug 2009, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak became the first Prime Minister to make an official visit to Batu Cave since his father Tun Razak did in 1970 The visit has made PM the second prime minister in the country’s history to visit the Hindu holy site since the nation gained independence more than 50 years ago. PM’s father

PENDING ISSUES TO THE ATTENTION of PRIME MINSITER OF MALAYSIA

And it is only right and fair that we Malaysian Telugus/ 30 branches of Telugu Association branches around the country to bring to the attention of the our beloved Prime Minister of Malaysia of the Pending Telugu main issues as follows:-

Telugu language is not offered in PMR or SPM examinations?

To date, there are about 1050 students who are following POL Telugu classes at some of the government schools such as at Bagan Datoh, Sungai Sumun,Hutan Melintang,Teluk Intan, Klang, Shah Alam, Sunway, Puchong, Batu Caves, Rawang Sitiawan, Bahau, Kulim and Sungai Petani which totals to about 35 classes. But what is saddened and disappointed is, ever since 1993 Telugu language is not being offered any more as an optional subject in PMR and SPM examinations.

No Telugu channel for malaysian Telugus?

The private pay channel “ASTRO” in our country has not been considerate to air enough programmes for the Telugu community. The least they could have done is to at least allocate five to eight hours Telugu programmes every day and upgrade the Telugu serials and have if they had valued us, the Telugu community, as their customers too. or we being the minority group and are not deemed to be heard. Telugu community subscribers were disappointed with the time allocated for them over ASTRO.

Or, allow the approval for the usage of satellite dishes as there are lot satellite dishes around the country especially in the Perak,Kedah,Perlis,Johor and East Malaysia.
Telugus should not be sidelined in the field of mother -tongue entertainment.

Telugu Senator ?

Government to consider appointing a senator from our community to highlight in Parliament the problems being faced by our community.

Telugu programmes over RTM?

For additional time for the Telugu community on Minnal FM, the Indian based radio programme on RTM.

NEW YEAR WISHES TO TELUGU FOLK - PRIME MINSITER OF MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak wished the Telugu community in Malaysia an auspicious start to their new year today.

The Telugu community, the second largest Indian ethnic group in the country after the Tamils, celebrates Ugadi today, which is the first day of the year according to the lunar calendar.

Najib said he hoped this year's celebration will strengthen ties not only among the Telugus but also among all races.

"As a caring government, we'll continue to support efforts to improve the welfare of the Telugu community so that they, too, will be able to enjoy the prosperity."

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, in a Bernama report, also wished the Telugu community a Happy New Year. He hoped that the community would remain united to face the many challenges.

"We have to strengthen unity to ensure the Indian community's survival and future.

"Together as 1Malaysian Indians, we can achieve our dreams and prosper economically and socially," he said.

Samy Vellu said Malaysia was blessed to have a multireligious and multicultural society, adding that the people had learned to respect the practice of all religions.

In a similar message, Human Resource Minister and MIC vice-president Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said tolerance and acceptance must be made part of life in multiracial Malaysia.

"A new year means new goals. As we move towards a new economic model, we must equip ourselves with the right attitude and education to embrace the changes that will take place."

Similar to traditions practised during Deepavali by the Indians in general, the Telugus will wake up early to take oil baths before seeking blessings from elders in their families. Later in the evening, they will go to the nearest temple to offer prayers.

Telugu Association of Malaysia Vice-President S. Venkatesh said one of the most important traditions which was still widely practised was the consumption of Ugadi Pachadi, a concoction of six spices and ingredients. The ingredients -- jaggery, salt, neem flowers, tamarind, young mango and green chilli -- represent the ups and downs of life. "Life is considered to be balanced only when it's a mixture of joy, sadness, anger and peace

The main stars of the film are Rana Daggubati, Richa Gangopadhyay and Priya Anand and the main reason why this Telugu film is so hyped up is because Rana happens to be the grandson of D Rama Naidu and son of D Suresh Babu. This is also his first film as an actor.

The movie “Leader” was premiered in India on 19th Feb 2010..

Leader is about the wide disparity that exists between an ordinary politician and a ‘Leader’. Even though there are no physical fights in this film (like most Telugu movies), there is a lot of drama involved.

Telugu TV news channels misleading reports of Andhra Pradesh

Message from: fullhyderabad.com
Dear Enkate,
Telugu TV news channels killing Hyderabad Image

Over the past couple of weeks, some Telugu news channels have been indulging in severely misleading reporting about Hyderabad in their bid for high TRPs through sensationalism.

They have been making it look like the whole of Hyderabad is burning, while in reality incidents of unrest have been happening in a small part of Hyderabad.

Hyderabad has already been hurt by the incidents of the past 3 months - the last thing we need now is irresponsible reporting that makes things look bad even when they really aren't any more.

We at fullhyd.com believe that a good part of the problem is being caused by irresponsible reporting by the electronic media, that tends to hype the smallest of incidents to monstrous proportions.

Somebody has to stop them and their competitive sensationalism - and it has to be the citizens of this city.

We have all enjoyed the growth of this city into an IT and biotech hub, and the jobs, lifestyle and dignity it gave us.

It's time for us to now give back, and save the city from reckless TV coverage that is killing Brand Hyderabad when the city is back to being just as safe and cool as it always was.

Here's how to do that. Post your protests on the forum below, and once the number of messages crosses 100, we at fullhyd.com will take prints of each message and send them to the CEOs of all those TV channels we believe are doing damaging reporting:

http://www.fullhyderabad.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=46837

fullhyd.com is one of India's largest local guides, with close to 3,00,000 unique visits a month now - and every post you make instantly gets onto our home page. It's the fastest and best way to get heard about this issue.

Protest now, and together we citizens of Hyderabad will all make them stop the damaging reporting soon.

Love,
The fullhyd.com Team

Telugu Actor GopiChand and the film producer of GOLIMAR with my family members in Langkawi, Malaysia on 11/02/2010 while filming in Malaysia

He was very humble and kind enough to allow me and my family to mix around with his 60 members crew and also to listen to my views about Telugu films needed to play better role to create much better understanding among Telugus as 1 Telugu, 1 Telugu Nation or 1 Telugu state

Gopichand did his engineering degree in Russia. His elder brother T. Premchand was working as an associate director to Mutyala Subbayya. Premchand made his debut as director and started working on a film under his home banner, but he unfortunately died in a car accident. Gopichand was in Russia during the death of his brother and could not attend his funeral due to visa problems.

Gopichand felt the need of someone to carry forward his father's legacy. As his brother was no more, he decided to enter the film industry. After completing his engineering, he did dialogue modulation course for a year. Then he made his debut as hero with ‘Toli Valapu’.
After doing villain roles in Jayam, Varsham and Nijam, he got a good break with Yagnam movie which turned out to be a blockbuster.
He was noted for his performance in Ranam in 2006. In 2007 his Okkadunnadu became a hit, next movie Lakshyam turned out to be one of the bigger hits of the year.
His next flick Souryam released in September 2008 turned out to be a blockbuster. This year he acted only in one movie Sankham which released in 11 September 2009 was an average grocer. His next movies are with Puri Jagannadh & Boyapati Sreenu.
He is very famous for his excellent action and dialogue delivery in addition to his impeccable comedy timing.

These traits make Gopichand a versatile Telugu hero, something uncommon in Telugu cinema. He is also very popular among girls as he is very handsome and cute. He is considered as Aggressive Star by all his fans & Tollywood.

Telugu words on the Bill Board in Malaysia

It is quite common to see shop/clinics business sign boards with Telugu words around Teluk Intan/Sabak Bernam/Rawang or on Telugu Associations buildings. But I believe it is 1 and only the 1 Bill Board with Telugu words too that I noticed along North and South Highway.
If one travelling from Tapah towards Bidor at about KM 336 you can notice the above. But how many of us are doing the same at our business centres?

Sankranti Telugu Style 13-16/1/2010

Sankranti/ Makara Sankranti/ Pongal Telugu style 13-16/1/2010

Sankranti is a solar event. It is the biggest festival of Indians. Three or four day’s continuous holidays by state government in India. So while dates of all Hindu festivals keep changing as per the Gregorian calendar, the date of Sankranti remains constant, 14 January. Sankranti is celebrated in the Hindu calendar month of Magha. Sankranti is celebrated wherever Indians are with some regional variations.
In India itself, it is known by different names and celebrated with different customs in different parts of the country as follows Makara Sankranti or Sankranti - Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Orissa, Manipur, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh/Telugus Karnataka and Goa ,Uttarayan- Gujarat and Rajasthan, Lohri - Himachal Pradesh, Punjab ,Pongal - Tamilnadu, Makara Vilakku Festival - Sabarimala Temple. In other countries too the day is celebrated under different names and in different ways:
In Nepal, Tharu people – Maghi,Other people - Maghe Sankranti or Maghe Sakrati,In Thailand - Songkran,In Laos - Pi Ma Lao; In Myanmar - Thingyan
Sankranti is also to honour, worship and to pay respect to the word mother, Saraswati Maa (Goddess of Knowledge). At the start of this significant event, there is also worship for the departed ancestors. The period is also considered an ideal time for aspirants to satisfy "the goals of life". Sankranti has deep spiritual significance and is rooted in an unshakable divine history and identifies a period of enlightenment, peace, prosperity and happiness followed by a period of darkness, ignorance and viciousness with immense sorrow. The worship of Saraswati is for the same reason that they celebrate Vasanta Panchami that represents the first day of spring and falls in.The worship and remembrance of departed/deceased ancestors is done during this Sankranti and is one of the most auspicious days for the Hindus.
Telugus style
It is a four day festival for Telugus
• Day 1 - Bhogi Panduga (Bhogi)-
• Day 2 - Pedda Panduga,(Sankranti)
• Day 3 - Kanuma Panduga (Kanuma)
• Day 4 - Dumulu Panduga (Mukkanuma)

The first day of festival is Bhogi. At dawn people light up a bonfire with several old articles/ coconut dry leaves/ bushes.A day before Sakranthri is known as Boghi. And on Boghi day, Telugus will usually apply a mixture of tumeric powder, green bean paste and sesame oil on our bodies to symbolically remove impurities before gathering with other family members around a bonfire or campfire. These are the regi pallu with petals of flower and coins of money, will be put on the heads of kids(generally younger than 3 years)(like talambralu) to get rid of Dishti(drushti). After which, whole house would be washed/ painted decorated with mugullu. All these events represent the change from old to new.

The second day is Sankranti, it is celebrated by boiling rice with fresh milk and jaggery in new pots, which are topped with brown sugar, cashew nuts and raisins early in the morning and allowing it to boil over the vessel. The new boiled rice is offered to the sun god, a gesture which symbolises thanks to the sun and nature for providing prosperity. It is later served to the people present in the house for the ceremony Followed by praying to their favorite God by offering them sweets and specially selected mixed vegetables and vegetarian food. The Telugus also worship and remembrance of departed ancestors by offerings clothes and their favorite vegetarian food to them (their photos). While most Hindus offer prayers to deceased family members on Deepavali, but the Telugus does it during on this day of Sakranti festival. Telugu sweets such as Ariselu, Boorelu, Gaarelu, Bobbatlu, Pallu java, Sinipakulu are prepared during this important festival. Travel is considered to be inappropriate, as these days are dedicated for re-union of the families. There is belief that ancestors may visit them on this day. Bhajans also organised for them.

The third day Kanuma Panduga (Kanuma) is for offering thanks to cattle, as they help farmer in different ways for agriculture. On this day the cattle are washed or bathed and decorated with paint, flowers and bells. They are fed red sweet rice and sugar cane. People do not eat any non-vegetarian during the first three days of the festival and eat it only on the day of Mukkanuma(Dumulu Panduga).
Modern day’s cattle are vehicles such as cars, Lorries, motorcycles or bicycles are today’s aid to mankind. And on this day what we practice is to wash cars, lorries, motor cycles, children bicycles and conduct thanking prayers for them as for aid in daily life.
Sankranti usually represents all the four days together. On the fourth day or final day people visit their relatives, friends to enjoy the festive season. It is celebrated in almost every village with adventurous games in South India and like in Malaysia in every estates and villages or even in all the Telugu homes.

Pending Telugu Issues to be addressed - 2010

Then, we seek approval for satellite dishes to be allowed as there are lot satellite dishes around the country especially in the Perak,Kedah,Perlis,Johor and East Malaysia. And we should not be sidelined in the field of mother -tongue entertainment.

Telugu Senator ?

TAM has asked the government to consider appointing a senator from their community to highlight in Parliament the problems being faced by our community.
TAM added that the community subscribes were disappointed with the time allocated for them over ASTRO.

Telugu programmes over RTM?

Dr Achaiah kumar Rao further said that they would submit a memorandum to Information Communication and Culture Minister urging for additional time for the Telugu community on Minnal FM, the Tamil-based radio programme on RTM.

Is TAM conducting pre-census exercise?

The population census of Malaysia is being carried out once in every ten years. The last census was carried out from 5/7/2000 till 20/7/2000. Next population census exercise would be carried out possible during the month of June/July 2010 throughout the country. Past experience has shown that as Telugus and Tamils are look alike there are many occasions we are recorded as Tamils. As we, Telugus living in Malaysia must explain to the census officers to ensure that Telugus are recorded as Telugus in the Census Form: Telugu Kod 65. If every Telugu irrespective of whether a member or not member of Telugu Association of Malaysia must play his or her role firmly during the census exercise being done. That will prove to the Government the correct Telugu population and strength of the Telugus in this country.
If fact this is very important and pass this message on to all Telugus you meet so that they will be well aware of their rights by the time the Census begins? or TAM conducting pre census exercise?
