A YSR loyalist and four-time MLA, Andhra Pradesh Speaker Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy, who has been selected to be the new Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, faces the daunting task to revitalize the party ridden by dissidence.

A legislator from his native Chittoor district in the Rayalaseema region of the state, 50-year-old Reddy will have to also use all his political acumen to take on the challenge posed by Congress' rebel Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

Considered a close follower of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Kiran Kumar Reddy was made the government Chief Whip, a role he had effectively discharged to take on the principal opposition Telugu Desam Party in general and his bete noire N Chandrababu Naidu in particular. Son of late Congress leader Amarnatha Reddy, who was was the political guru of TDP chief Naidu, Reddy graduated from the Nizam College in Hyderabad and later studied law.

An avid cricketer during his college days and a batch-mate of former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin, Reddy has represented Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy.

Kiran was first elected to the state assembly from Vayalpadu constituency in Chittoor district in 1989 but the lost the election in 1994. In 1999 and 2004, he was elected successively from the same constituency. He had to shift to Pileru constituency in 2009 because of delimitation.

He could not be accommodated in the YSR cabinet in 2009 because of political equations in Chittoor district and hence, he was made Speaker of the assembly.

After K Rosaiah became the Chief Minister in September 2009, Kiran had again aspired to become a minister but the promised cabinet expansion never took place

Students taking an oath to promote Hindi in Vijayawada on Sunday

VIJAYAWADA: “In this era of information explosion, we face a major challenge of creating a knowledge society. Adaptation of the rapid changes witnessed in the education sector is essential to meet this challenge,” says Shashi Bhushan, Joint Secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

In his key note at the 13 {+t} {+h} State-level Visharad Convocation of the Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar (DBHP) Sabha – Andhra, here on Sunday, Mr. Bhushan said the forethought of those at the helm of the Prachar Sabha in recognising the need to embrace changes in the system was praiseworthy.

Against this backdrop, the mode of distance education had received wide acceptance across the world and in a country like India, this mode was an effective tool to take education to the doorstep of people at the grassroot level.

He said the Prachar Sabha not only identified the usefulness of the programme but took adequate steps for their implementation in the most successful way. Mr. Bhushan recalled the famous lines of Swami Vivekananda who said: “Why should not be education taken from door-to-door. If the poor boy cannot come to education, education must go to him.”

Gandhi's dream

Complimenting the Prachar Sabha for what he called ‘carrying forward the dream of the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi who had emphasised the need for using Hindi language to promote harmony and integrity among diverse communities.

President and Chancellor of DBHP Sabha, Madras, V. S. Malimath, said the Sabha had been rendering great service for the last 93 years in propagating Hindi language among people of non-Hindi sates of southern India.

Andhra Pradesh had the unique distinction of having the largest number of people familiar with Hindi language. He attributed it to the erstwhile Hyderabad State where education was imparted in Urdu language which was close to Hindi.

Recalling that the Sabha was founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1918 to ensure emotional integration of the people of this large country consisting of people speaking different languages, he said people of Andhra Pradesh deserved praise for enthusiastically involving themselves in teaching and propagating the national language.

He said besides teaching Hindi, the Prachar Sabha's curriculum included other subjects like mass media, multi-media, library science, computer application and management

He said teaching programmes were formulated bearing in mind the need to prepare the students for gainful employment.

Telugu - the most musical and sweetest of the Dravidian languages

Telugu -- the most musical and sweetest of all Dravidian languages....

The word 'Andhra' -- as a people, as a region and as a language is very ancient. The first context of Andhra people and the word 'Andhra' was recorded in the 'Aitareeya Brahmana' of the 'Rugveda', prior to 600 B.C. Vidyanathudu, the poet who belonged to the King Pratapa Rudra's court, wrote in his 'Pratapa Rudra Yashobhushanam' that the word 'Trilinga Desam' originated because of the presence of the three Saivaite temples at Srisailam, Kaleswaram and Draksharamam within this region. And, so it was believed that the word Telugu was derived from 'Trilinga'.

The tribes of Andhra mingled with Naga, Yaksha, and Dravida tribes of Vindhya mountains who were already living there then,and hence Telugu, Tamil and Kannada became the Dravidian languages. Rayalaseema was the first settlement of 'Tenugu' people and the word 'Tenugu' was later transformed into 'Telugu'. From 'Telugu' words like "Telagalu", "Telangana", "Telanganyulu" (a subset of Andhra Brahmins) , and "Teligiri" originated. 'Tenugu' is the meaning for those who travel towards south. In Tamil and Kannada "ten" means south side.

Though the inscriptions of the 7th century AD are in Telugu, it was Nannayya around 1030 AD, who brought about a revolution in Telugu by translating two and a half cantos of Mahabaharata. In translating the Sanskritic element, he showed a unique gift in synthesising the Sanskritic art with telugu and also in raising the dignity and beauty of the language. And from here Telugu leaped into the Pre-Prabanda age, the Prabandha age and then into the modern period of Telugu literature.

The script of Telugu is by itself beautiful and artistic. Telugu, with its profuse use of vowels and fine words ending with Na and La is an apt medium for the conveyance of Carnatic musical expression and melody. Hence, non-Telugu musicologists prefer to compose and sing in Telugu.

In its long journey, Telugu, the second most spoken language in India, has assimilated many foreign words and gained its distinct identity in the fields of teaching, science, medicine and engineering to name a few.

My Comment

No point calling Astro as every time they do that, as though Telugus not celebrating Deepavali. Write/ email/telegram to PM/ Ministry of Information, Communication & Culture highlighting injustice done to our Telugus especially TAM should do press statement and the branches to attention of respective MPs.

Even if we...... are allowed to use Satellite Dish, the channels are not that entertaining as no dramas(serials) / very old movies only news and news and The earliest we can view the channels is at after 10.30 pm or so as most of us (Malaysian Telugus) are following Tamil serials over Astro.

The best option is Gemini channel via Astro

Deepavali @ Diwali

Deepavali is popularly known as the festival of lights. It is an important five-day festival in Hinduism and Jainism, occurring between mid-October and mid-November. For Hindus, Diwali is the most important festival of the year and is celebrated with families performing traditional activities together in their homes. Deepavali is an official holiday in India, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Mauritius, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Myanmar , Fiji , and Suriname.

It is also known Diwali which is itself a contraction of the word "Deepavali" (Sanskrit: Dīpāvali), which translates into row of lamps. Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps (divas) filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil. During Diwali celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks with family members and friends. Some Indian business communities begin the financial year on the first day of Diwali, hoping for prosperity the following year.

In Jainism, Diwali marks the attainment of moksha by Mahavira in 527 BC. In Sikhism, Deepavali commemorates the return of Guru Har Gobind Ji to Amritsar after freeing 52 Hindu kings imprisoned in Fort Gwalior by Emperor Jahangir; the people lit candles and diyas to celebrate his return. This is the reason Sikhs also refer to Deepavali as Bandi Chhorh Divas, "the day of release of detainees". Deepavali is considered a national festival in India and Nepal.

Spiritual Significance

While Deepavali is popularly known as the "festival of lights", the most significant spiritual meaning is "the awareness of the inner light". Central to Hindu philosophy is the assertion that there is something beyond the physical body and mind which is pure, infinite, and eternal, called the Atman. Just as we celebrate the birth of our physical being, Diwali is the celebration of this inner light, in particular the knowing of which outshines all darkness (removes all obstacles and dispels all ignorance), awakening the individual to one's true nature, not as the body, but as the unchanging, infinite, immanent and transcendent reality. With the realization of the Atman comes universal compassion, love, and the awareness of the oneness of all things (higher knowledge). This brings Ananda (joy or peace). While the story behind Deepavali and manner of celebration varies from region to region (festive fireworks, worship, lights, sharing of sweets), the essence is the same – to rejoice in the Inner Light (Atman) or the underlying reality of all things (Brahman).

Deepavali is celebrated for five days according to the lunisolar Hindu Calendar. It begins in late Ashvin (between September and October) and ends in early Kartika (between October and November). The first day is Dhan Teras. The last day is Yama Dvitiya, which signifies the second day of the light half of Kartika. Each day of Deepavali marks one celebration of the six principal stories associated with the festival.^[6].

Hindus have several significant events associated with Diwali:

• The return of Sri Ram after 14 years of Vanvas (banishment). To welcome his return, candles were lit in rows of 20.
• The killing of Narakasura: Celebrated as Naraka Chaturdashi, one day before Deepavali, it commemorates the killing of the evil demon Narakasura, who wreaked havoc. Krishna's wife Satyabhama killed Narakasura during the Dwapara yuga. In another version of the belief, the demon was killed by Krishna or Krishna provoked his wife Satyabhama to kill Narshna, defeating Indra.
• Govardhan Puja is celebrated the day after Deepavali and is the day Krishna defeated Indra, the deity of thunder and rain. According to the story, Krishna saw preparations for an annual offering to Lord Indra and asked his father Nanda about it. He debated with the villagers about what their 'dharma' truly was. They were farmers, they should do their duty and concentrate on farming and protection of their cattle. He said that all human beings should do their 'karma' to the best of their ability and not pray for natural phenomenon. The villagers were convinced by Krishna, and did not proceed with the special puja (prayer). Indra was then angered, and flooded the village. Krishna lifted Mount Govardhan and held to protect the people and cattle from the rain. Indra finally accepted defeat and recognized Krishna as supreme. Although this aspect of Krishna's life is sometimes ignored it sets up the basis of the 'karma' philosophy later detailed in the

Just wondering, if there are Telugu programmes for this Deepavali which falls on 5/11/2010.

Lately, Telugu Association of Malaysia has been working extra hard to the extend of even organising"An Evening with Prime Minister" and highlighting about to consider to increase Telugu programmes over Radio/Tv, Education fund and many other issues faced.

No Telugu programmes for Deepavali over Astro

It is truly sad and a disturbing Deepavali Sunday for all Malaysian Telugus. ASTRO shows its discrimination once again against the minorities in Malaysia particularly the Telugus. In spite of repeated appeals and request from Telugu viewers and the Telugu Association of Malaysia. ASTRO has turn deaf hear. There was no Telugu slot at all for Telugus who celebrated Deepavali on Saturday(17/10/09). Even the Sunday normal Telugu programmes slots were completely taken away which is the next day of Deepavali.

The PM calls for 1 Malaysia that is to accept and respect all cultural, religious and linguistic values by all Malaysian appears have not reached to ASTRO. I believe 1 Malaysia is not only focused on Malays, Chinese and Tamils in this country but also minorities like Telugus, Malayali, Punjabis and others.

Deepavali, a festival celebrated by all Hindus in the world but Astro is projecting as though if it belongs to only our Tamils brothers and sisters.

From the day of independence, the Telugu society had never once let down to give its sincere and strong support to the Ruling Government party. The community has strived to excel in all walks of life and contributed in many ways to the development and peace of this country for all most a century. The Telugu community has been a peaceful citizen and posed no burden to the government in any way.

Obviously, until today the close to 300K Telugu populations in Malaysia was not given a fair attention and the privilege and one of it is to view much of their mother tongue programmes.

It has been decades the responsible broadcasting Medias failed to fulfill the cries of the Telugu community in this country. Over private TV Astro which has 6 channels to cater for Indian views but very sadden that only 4 Telugu moives on sundays 4.00pm-6.30pm;mondays 1100am -1.30pm, wednesdays 2.00 am- 4.30 am & Thursday 4.00 pm - 6.30pm and a drama serial of the 4 repeated serials are shown for every week but whatever appealing and begging them, but unheard.

Annually RTM promised and even issued letter to WP/Selangor branch (Sri A Appanah Naidu was the chairman of the WP/Selangor branch, then) to telecast 3 Telugu films over TV 2. But to date, only 1 Telugu movie is shown during Telugu New Year. While TV 3 and Ntv 7 almost nil on Telugu programmes. And over Radio completely no Telugu slot on Sundays over Minnal Radio.

In many occasions, either directly or indirectly we have been deprived the rights to even enjoy basic entertainment in our own mother tongue via the public and private broadcasting TV stations. Even attempts after attempts we merely face negligence with unconvincingly feeble excuses from responsible quarters. Looking at the way this community is positioned we foresee the society on the track of mere extinction.To this issue, it is only fair to ask as a minority group like the Telugus in this country should be allowed to see their mother-tongue languages programmes over Satellite Tv being allowed. Anyway, there are thousand illegal satellite dishes around the country.

Looking at the reality, why not make legal for minority groups such as Telugus to view Satellite Tv?

Story:

GK (Prakash Raj) is a business tycoon who plans to create a plastic factory in Paali village. GK finds that the land of Paali is having Iridium (worth more than gold) through a researcher. So GK plans to get his son’s marriage with Tanikella Bharani’s daughter Subhashini (Anushka) so that their business can grow unlawfully.

To get Iridium land, now GK tries to leave the people in Paali (through a superstition). Seetharama Raju (Mahesh Babu) is a taxi driver. How Seetharama Raju saves the lives of the 534 people in Paali, this is unveiled by the plot.

Reviews:

Trivikram Srinivas, writer turned Director is known for his candy floss and humor quotient, but reveals a different fairy-tale in the form of an action entertainer Khaleja.

In a completely different dimension, Mahesh Babu’s characterization is being shown. Trivikram comes up with an attractive script which is perfect on Mahesh Babu.

Earlier, this type of unique character in his career has not been made by Mahesh Babu. In this narration, he is able to take the responsibility and carries the feel of his character very well.

Plot and conflict point are reasonably strong. The story took off was not as expected in the screenplay and pace. But the strength in the conflict point was not badly affected since the lead protagonist being Mahesh Babu. Besides this, his action sequences were also well made and he does with Bachchan-like naturalness.

This is not a film that should be made with a whopping budget of 40 crores and short in 3 years. Once again, Trivikram carries the same humor dimensions with Sunil, Ali and Brahmanandam. But the big bang is not diluted by all the giddiness.

Performances:

Mahesh Babu is attractive and graceful. By his role, he again is made a teen heartthrob by his stylish looks and trendy costumes. He mesmerizes with this on-screen presence true to his image of Prince Charming. His body language is very energetic and his action episodes are great as well.

Anushka is attractive as a demure damsel. The role is fit with her essential impishness. But she has to improve her expressions in emotional scenes. Rao Ramesh has done well as a foreteller – mostly same as he did in Magadheera. Shafi also did well as Rao Ramesh’s disciple. Prakash Raj and Thannikela Bharani are

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah has extended his warm felicitation and greetings to the Telugu people celebrating their 150-year stay in Malaysia.

Recalling the legendary King Sri Krishna Devaraya pronouncement that the Telugu language had honorary past, Mr Rosaiah in a message release here to media said that his government would do everything to encourage Telugu language and culture.

Commanding the Telugus in Malaysia for keeping their heritage and links with people in India, the chief minister said the Telugu people migrated years ago for trade, had maintained their cultural link.

He greeted Telugu people allover the world who were working for the development of Telugu language and Culture.

My comment: Government of Andhra Pradesh should play an important role in organising every two years(biennial) at least, meetings/conference in uniting all Telugu organisations around the world to order to monitoring all Telugu activities.

Around 13,000 people flocked the Putrajaya International Convention Centre yesterday in a large scale celebration for the 150th anniversary of Telugu Heritage in Malaysia.

The event was graced by many luminaries from Andhra Pradesh which includes politicians and members of the ‘Tollywood’ film fraternity, with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak serving as the chief guest.

Organized by the Malaysian Telugu Association (TAM), the 12-hour event drew audiences from all over the peninsula, as the local Telugu community attempted to channel their needs and aspirations to the leaders in attendance.

In his keynote address, Najib pledged that the government would provide adequate support for the Telugu community.

“I have set up a special committee that specially oversees the problems that are plaguing Malaysian Indians,” he said.

He also added that if he makes a promise, he will ‘keep his words’.

Najib also stressed that the next 10 years would be crucial for the country.

“At a growth rate of 6 per cent every year, we will achieve the status of a fully developed nation in 10 years,” he said.

Najib, who is the first ever Malaysian premier to grace a Telugu community event, reiterated that his 1 Malaysia concept is a ‘guiding philosophy’ and not a ’slogan’.

The attendance was so overwhelming that the organizers ran out of tags for the show. The PICC main hall, which can only fit 4,500 people, was housing an excess of 9,000 people by the time Najib gave his speech.

The remaining attendees had gathered at a second hall where a live coverage was played to them.

Upon arrival, Najib had to first pay a visit to those in the second hall before entering the main hall.

“This is the first time in my 35 years as a politician I had to enter a second hall before coming into the main hall,” he added.

TAM supremos used the opportunity to share the needs and desires of the Telugu community who attended the program.

Chief advisor and Masterskill Group CEO Edmund Santhara Ramanaidu called for more ‘recognition’ and ‘opportunities’ to be given to Telugus.

He had also stressed that before seeking external help, high income earners among the Telugu community should first contribute back to their own society.

TAM president Achaiah Kumar Rao meanwhile clarified that TAM does not have vested political interests and only channel their needs through political parties that serve Indians’ well being.

“We have asked for a lot before but we always receive way less than what we ask. It is not enough for our social needs,” he said.

Najib had also elaborated that he will invite Kumar Rao to his office to further discuss the needs of the Telugu society.

This event marks 150 years since the arrival of Telugus in Malaysia, where they were mainly employed in rubber estates.

“When our economy relied on rubber, you are the ones who provided the latex,” Najib added.

MIC president Samy Vellu, PPP president M. Kayveas, and Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is affectionately called ‘Bapa Telugu’ due to his vast contribution to the Telugu society, were the others in attendance.

There were also ministers from Andhra Pradesh, the High Comissioner Of India to Malaysia, along with delegates from Mauritius, United States, and Singapore.

A muhurat (film launch) for a new Telugu movie took place where the inauguration of the film was followed by a small scene being shot on the stage at PICC.

Prominent Indian actors Poorna and Naresh made a special appearance and acted out the scene live in front of the audience.

Actors Balakrishna and Sai Kumar along with singer P. Suseela also made respective appearances.

There are around half-a-million Telugus in Malaysia, and many of them are concentrated at Bagan Datoh, Perak.

Rosaiah invited to Malaysian Telugu meet

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Association of Malaysia (TAM) has invited Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on behalf of their Prime Minister to participate in the 150 Malaysian Telugu Heritage anniversary celebrations being held in Malaysia on October 8.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mohd. Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak, will be the chief guest at the function.

TAM president Dr. Achaiah Kumar Rao called on the Chief Minister here on Saturday, extending a formal invitation to him. Mr. Rosaiah thanked the Malaysian Prime Minister for the gesture and said he would try to attend the celebrations.

Celebrations

The event is being organised marking the official landing of the Telugu community in Malaysia 150 years ago. TAM is a representative organisation of over 5 lakh Telugus living in Malaysia. It was formed to promote and safeguard Telugu culture, language and heritage

Malaysian Telugu Youths- TAM Sel/ WP Branch Road Show Time - 16/9/10 Puchong Indah, Puchong

On 16/09/2010 about 300 Telugus gathered at Dewan Puchong Indah, Puchong to witness the TAM Selangor/ Wilayah Branch Road Show in the preparation for "An Evening with Prime Minister of Malaysia on 8/10/2010 at PICC , Putrajaya, Malaysia. The Road show's expenses at Puchong was taking care by Dato' Kanta Rao, past TAM Youth chief

It is expected that about 10,000 Telugus would gather for this Mega Event. It is one day affair whereby planned to kick off at about 11.00 am and end at 11.00 pm. 150 years of Telugu Heritage in Malaysia Exhibition/ Local/ Tollywood Show.
Hence, on the next day Business Forum is being looked into and Agenda & Place of Meeting will updated later. Further info

Selangor/ Wilayah Telugu Association of Malaysia branch is organising another Road Show on 16/9/2010 at Dewan Puchong Indah, Puchong as part of prepartation of the Mega Show "An Evening with Prime Minister. Most of the members TAM are mainly from Selangor/ Wilayah and as the event is at PICC, Putrajaya, it is believe that almost every one would turn-up for the Mega show 8/10/2010.

Telugu Movie -Don Seenu - Sentul Cinema 21 & 22/82010

New Telugu Movie " DON SEENU" releasing in Sentul Cinema.

Don Seenu is an 2010 Telugu film. The film stars Ravi Teja and Shriya Saran in the lead roles while actor Srihari plays a key role and Hindi actress Anjana Sukhani is also a part of the film, which is her first in Telugu . Music is scored by Mani Sharma and the film is directed by a debutant Gopichand Malineni. Shriya is making her comeback in telugu cinema after a gap of 5 years. Don Seenu got a U/A Certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification on 02.08.2010. This film released on August 06, 2010.

This story is all about a ambitious boy named Srinu (Ravi Teja) who dreams of becoming a don. He always likes to be called as ‘Don’ Srinu since childhood due to the strong influence of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Don’. He grows up with just one passion - that of becoming the World's No: 1 Don. Thanks to his enterprising nature, he gains access to the cream of the city's dons, and uses his cleverness to play off the top two - Machiraju (Sayaji Shinde) and Narsing (Sri Hari), fierce rivals - against each other. Srinu wants to join one of these dons and grow up in the ranks. He joins hands with Machiraju(Sayaji Shinde). In the process he is given a task to go to Swiss and win the heart of Narsing’s sister whose marriage is fixed with the son of the super don Mukesh (Mahesh Manjrekar). Srinu goes to Germany and wins the heart of Deepthi (Shriya) and later, he discovers that he was shown the wrong girl. The wrong girl is none another than Deepthi (Shriya), who is the sister of Machiraju. This leads to various turns in the plot. What happens next is all about how Srinu achieves his dream of becoming a don.
