Ugadi 2012

As the Malaysian Telugu community celebrates their New Year or “Ugadi”, we are all once again reminded of the richness of our country’s heritage. In Malaysia, “Ugadi” is a major celebration in the Telugu community and is a time for families to come together to mark a new beginning.

In realising the 1Malaysia concept, Telugus play an important role in working with Government to address the issues faced by the people. The Government is constantly engaging directly with the people and implementing various programs to transform the country. In all our efforts, we are firmly committed to the principle that under the Malaysian sky, no community will be left out.

It is very touching to see the Prime Minister of Malaysia wishing the Telugus "Ugadi Shubhakanshalu". In fact it is also nice to see that YAB would address the other issues.

YAB Datuk Seri, other important issue that I could recall is that Telugu Astro channel as "No Telugu separate Channel for Telugus to view in our own mother tongue language".There are about 6 or 7 Indian channels but only 2 or 3 hrs allocated for Telugu programme per day.

In all our efforts, we are firmly committed to the principle that under the Malaysian sky, no community will be left out.

The Government is committed to deliver all our promises to the Indian community, and we have been doing just that over the last 3 years. The results are clear and the impact is positive. Longstanding problems have been overcome whilst new issues are being addressed.

In looking to the future and in celebrating new beginnings which a new year offers, let us build a partnership based on trust so that, together, we can uplift the community. I cannot do this alone and so I need each and every one of you to walk with me in this journey to bring transformation and the light of hope to all Malaysians.

I take this opportunity to wish “Ugadi Shubhakanshalu” to all Malaysian Telugus clear and the impact is positive. Longstanding problems have been overcome whilst new issues are being addressed.

    Ugadi Celebrations in Andhra Pradesh

Telugus usher in New Year with gaiety

Hyderabad, March 23 : Telugu-speaking people Friday ushered in Telugu New Year 'Ugadi' in a traditional manner and with gaiety.

Telugus across Andhra Pradesh decorated their houses and shops with mango leaves, tasted the traditional 'Ugadi pacchadi' and heard 'panchangnam' or the forecast of the coming year by 'agma' pundits to usher in the new year.

Women prepared 'Ugadi pacchadi', a mixture of neem buds, raw mango, tamarind juice, pepper, jaggery and salt, - a must for the celebrations. The mixture symbolizes that life is a mixture of different experiences like happiness and sadness, which should be accepted together and with equanimity.

Thousands of devotees thronged the temple to pray for happiness and prosperity in the New Year. Special prayers were held at Tirumala, Srisailam and Vijayawada temples.

People also attend special functions where the pundits read out 'panchangnam' or religious almanac of the coming year. Literary discussions, poetry recitations, recognition of authors through award and cultural programmes marked the day.

The main official function was held at Ravindra Bharati in the state capital, where an agma pundit read out the religious almanac of the coming year.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and some of his cabinet colleagues attended the main celebrations and tasted 'Ugadi pacchadi'.

People who excelled in different spheres of life were felicitated on the occasion. They included farmers who adopted innovative methods of cultivation and the officials who rendered services to farmers.

The chief minister announced that world Telugu conference would be held in December this year at Tirupati. He noted that for the first time after 1976 that world Telugu conference would be organized.

'Ugadi' celebrations were also held at Gandhi Bhavan, the headquarters of ruling Congress party and at NTR Trust Bhavan, the office of main opposition Telugu Desam Party.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, the chief minister, leader of opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu and others greeted people on the occasion of 'Ugadi' and hoped that the New Year would bring happiness and prosperity for Telugus around the world. (IANS)

India should be divided into 50 smaller states: Subramanyam Swamy

Hyderabad, Mar 1 : Janata Party President Dr Subramanyam today said India should be divided into 50 smaller states and the process should begin with the formation of Telangana.

Addressing Telangana advocates on the issue of separate state here, Dr Swamy demanded the Centre to declare Telangana immediately.

Assuring the Telangana lawyers that he would take up the fight on their behalf for achieving the Telangana state, Dr Swamy, also a former professor at the Harvard University, asked them to send him the details regarding the Telangana issue.

'If provide all the details, I will file a petition in High Court in the state on the fraud committed by the Centre on the issue of Telangana,' he assured them.

Dr Swamy squarely blamed Union Home Minister Chidambaram(from Tamil Nadu) for the Telangana fiasco. (UNI)
